Palm University College is a private liberal arts University College. Our mission is to educate ethical and excellent leaders in Africa. Palm began instruction in September of 2014 with six (6) students, four (4) staff, and six (6) faculty members. Palm University College is an independent private non-profit University College registered at the Registrar General’s Authority in Ghana. Palm University College is accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and affiliated to the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
Our Focus on the Liberal Arts
Palm University College offers degree and certificate programs with an interactive liberal arts core curriculum. We encourage our students to question assumptions, theories, models and concepts presented in our lecture halls and life in general. Our curriculum is designed to enable faculty and students work collaboratively to close the gap between theory and practice. Our liberal arts core curriculum courses include: Critical Thinking, Leadership, Design Thinking and Entrepreneurship, African Studies, Modern English and Expository Writing, Economics (microeconomics and macroeconomics), Sociology and Psychology. These courses are run by the Humanities and Social Sciences Department at Palm.
Our Approach to Academics
Our academic programs are designed to educate our students to be locally and globally competitive in their chosen industries. The University College currently offers comprehensive and practical Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology degree.
Palm University College also offers a the following professional Computer Science certification programs: Cyber Security and Safety Management, Google Cloud Fundamentals, Programming Fundamentals, Mobile Application Development and Data-Driven Dynamic Web Application Development. All academic program at Palm are run with an interactive liberal arts core curriculum. All Palm students are required to fulfill all required liberal arts core curriculum requirements prior to graduation.
Internships
Palm University College incorporates required internships into our curriculum. Our internship program is designed to provide hands-on experiences for our students and to facilitate our quest to bridge the gap between theory and practice. All students are required to complete a 40 hour week internships for three months every long vacation (summer break) from their sophomore year through their senior year with top local and international Ghanaian, U.S and U.K based corporations prior to graduation. The Career Services Department at Palm University College facilitate all internship with top corporate Ghanaian, U.S and U.K based organizations. The department monitors and assess both the student and the corporation to ensure the internship engagement is mutually beneficial.
The Career Services Department also sets up corporate mentoring and coaching programs where all Palm students are paired with corporate mentors and coaches throughout their academic experience at Palm.
All students at Palm are required to complete at least 40 hours of Community Service prior to graduation. The community service program integrates our the Palm community into the larger community and encourages our students, staff and faculty to give back.
Our Faculty
Palm University College courses are taught by accomplished faculty with relevant industry experience in Ghana and the United States. Lectures are organized and taught with contextualized case-studies and relevant texts that recognize the unique values and culture of Ghana and Africa with a global emphasis. Our non-traditional hands-on and applied approach to professional and academic development enables our students to excel in their chosen fields. We have seven adjunct and full-time faculty members and four administrative staff. Our faculty and staff were trained in Ghana and the United States.
